PATHFINDERS                                                    (PATHFINDER DIRECTOR: KIM BARRETT)                                   (DEPUTY DIRECTOR: MONICA ADAMS)

The Pathfinders Club is a faith-based scouting group for children ages 10 to 15 which provides a wide range of activities from crafts to camping. For nearly a century, Pathfinders has served to enrich the lives of children around the world and encourage them to cultivate a lasting relationship with God.

Pathfinders and a worldwide organization of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, though young people of any religious persuasion, or none at all, are welcome and encouraged to join the organization.

Pathfinders offer a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:

  • Camping and camping/survival skills

  • Grade appropriate leadership training

  • Activities promoting community pride and involvement through outreach activities such as helping in downtown soup kitchens, collecting food for the disadvantaged, cleaning and maintaining city and county parks, visiting and encouraging the elderly, and MANY more

  • Interactive training in a variety of recreational, artistic, nature, conservation, vocational, and outreach areas, with awards (honors) given for successful completion of the interactive training modules

  • Personal care and encouragement by a caring staff member! While many school classrooms have 10-30 students per teacher, Pathfinders offers AT LEAST a 1 staff member to every 5 Pathfinder ratio!

JOINING A LOCAL PATHFINDERS CLUB:

Pathfinders is for those who are in the fifth grade or its equivalent through the eighth grade. 5th and 6th graders are often referred to as "Junior" pathfinders, and 7th and 8th graders are often referred to as "Teen" Pathfinders.

The Teen Leadership Training (TLT) program works closely with the Pathfinder program and is for high school students (grades 9-12).

Staff positions are available in many locations that offer adults the opportunity to make a difference for young people, develop friendships with fellow staff, learn more about God's creation, and improve their training skills.

PATHFINDER LAW                                                                                                                       The Pathfinder Law is for me to:
                                                           Keep the morning watch
                                                           Do my honest part
                                                           Care for my body,
                                                           Keep a level eye
                                                           Be courteous and obedient
                                                           Walk softly in the sanctuary,
Keep a song in my heart,
                                                           Go on God's errand.

                           PATHFINDER PLEDGE EXPLANATION

By the grace of God

Only as we rely on God to help us can we do His will.

I will be pure

I will fill my mind with everything that is right and true and spend my   time in activities that will build a strong, clean character.

I will be kind

I will be considerate and kind, not only to my fellow man, but also to all   of God's creation.

I will be true.

I will be honest and upright in study, work and play and can always be   counted upon to do my very best.

I will keep the Pathfinder Law.

I will seek to understand the meaning of the Law and will strive to live   up to it's spirit, realizing that obedience to law is essential in any   organization

I will be a servant to God

I will pledge myself to serve God first, last, and best in everything I am   called upon to be or do.

I will be a friend to man.

I will live to bless others and do unto them as I would have them do unto   me.

                            PATHFINDER LAW EXPLANATION

Keep the Morning Watch.

I will have prayer and personal bible study each day.

Do my honest part.

By the power of God I will help others, and do my duty and my honest share, wherever I may be.

Care for my body

I will be temperate in all things and strive to reach a higher standard of physical fitness.

Keep a level eye.

I will not lie, cheat or deceive, and will despise dirty talk or evil thinking.

Be courteous and obedient.

I will be kind and thoughtful of others, reflecting the love of Jesus in all my association with others.

Walk softly in the sanctuary.

In any devotional exercise I will be quiet, careful and reverent.

Keep a song in my heart

I will be cheerful and happy and let the influence of my life be as sunshine to others.

Go on God's errands.

I will always be ready to share my faith and go about doing good as Jesus did.

                                  PATHFINDER SONG:

Oh, we are the Pathfinders strong,
The servants of God are we.
                                                Faithful as we march along,
                                                In kindness, truth, and purity
A Message to tell to the world,
A truth that will set us free!

            INVESTITURE ACHEIVEMENT CURRICULUM

Investiture Achievement curriculum is the core of the Pathfinder ministry and will lead the Pathfinders in your club through an exciting journey as they learn and grow in their Christian experience.

The Investiture Achievement curriculum is for Pathfinders in grades 5-10 or their equivalent. As you review the requirements, you will see that they are aligned with the goals that are listed for each segment. Throughout the curriculum, special focus is given to creating a series of age-appropriate requirements that are sequenced to build from year to year, allowing Pathfinders to build on the skills previously learned. You are encouraged to use the best practices in education to meet the Pathfinder ministry goals.

The Investiture Achievement curriculum is divided into 6 levels: Friend, Companion, Explorer, Ranger, Voyager, and Guide (see menu for each level). Each level of the Investiture Achievement requirements are divided into seven tracks:

PERSONAL GROWTH

The Personal Growth track encourages each Pathfinder to have a personal relationship with Jesus through a daily devotional life, Bible study, and prayer.

SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY

In the Spiritual Discovery track, Pathfinders grow spiritually through the study of real people in the Bible and Christian history.

SERVING OTHERS

In the Serving Others track, Pathfinders experience the joy of service through outreach, friendship evangelism, and other church or community activities.

MAKING FRIENDS

In the Making Friends track, Pathfinders learn how to be a friend to others, to the community, and to the planet.

HEALTH & FITNESS

In the Health and Fitness track, Pathfinders apply health and fitness principles, share these principles with others, and practice basic first aid and safety procedures.

NATURE STUDY

In the Nature Study track, Pathfinders learn about God through observation of nature, time spent outdoors, and environmental stewardship.

OUTDOOR LIVING

In the Outdoor Living track, Pathfinders perform outdoor skills, solve outdoor challenges, and participate in outdoor team activities.

HONOR ENRICHMENT

Honor enrichment promotes personal growth and allows Pathfinders to explore their interests by earning new honors, learning new skills, and studying new content areas.

Pathfinders who want to be invested in the Advanced level must complete all basic requirements plus additional requirements as listed in each track. They will also earn many additional honors as they complete the requirements in the Honor Enrichment track.

Requirements can be met in a variety of ways based on how each individual Pathfinder learns best. Each year that a Pathfinder is invested and advances to the next level the tracks remain the same as the previous year. However, the activities to fulfill the requirements change in order to allow each Pathfinder the opportunities to participate in new experiences and challenges and to practice skills and use information previously learned.

This curriculum is designed to create an ongoing learning environment. To maximize the success for each Pathfinder, club directors, instructors, and all Pathfinder staff must intentionally:

  • Inspire and motivate Pathfinders.

  • Emphasize quality, not quantity, of learning.

  • Build on knowledge that has been gained in earlier levels.

  • Allocate time to practice new concepts and skills.

  • Aim for understanding rather than memorization.

  • Consider developmental and individual abilities of each Pathfinder.

  • Employ effective and flexible strategies to aid learning.

  • Use concrete and meaningful activities.
